Bone density refers to the amount of bone mineral in bone tissue. We measure the density of our bones in clinical medicine as an indirect indicator of osteoporosis and fracture risk. Bone health is important to a person’s overall health. If the bones lose density, they may break easily. Throughout childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood, the bones absorb nutrients and minerals, gaining strength. From our late twenties and early thirties our bone density will peak before declining.
We can improve the strength and health of the bones in our bodies through exercise such as strength training, our diet plays a key role in our bones health too.
